Installing on IP Address rather than Domain Name

I’m in the process of moving a CS Cart installation from one server to another (the new one is CGI).



The current site is live, so I’m trying to install a fresh installation on the new server, however I’m curious as to any problems I may encounter when running through the installation wizard.



Because the domain name still points to the live server, I’m only able to use the IP Address of the shared server i.e. [url]http://69.238.16.32/~hotsale/[/url].



During the installation, it asks me for the location of the DB and site. What should I enter here? Domain name? IP Address?



I’m affraid that if I use the IP, the URL when visiting the website will be IP and not Domain Name.



Any thoughts or comments?

Should probably be “localhost” unless your web host has told you otherwise.

  1. on your new server you have to make a new database
  2. the database host in most cases should be ‘localhost’, if you are not sure ask your hosting provider



    Regarding the IP instead of a domain name make sure that your NS point to your account.



    But normally I don’t understand that because when you created your account by your hosting provider you should have or provide a domain name for your account.
