Hello,
I have been attempting to install my new license of CS Cart being a newbie as far as dealing with installing shopping carts for a couple days now. I have tried changing file permissions per the installation manual and am getting the following errors: 403 forbidden. You don’t have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I am hoping there will be a simple fix so I can get my site up. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I’ll be blunt to say that nothing runs on GoDaddy well.
Since you don’t have permission to access “/” (domain root) check your .htaccess file.
Permissions should be 644, otherwise delete it and see if the website loads.
J.
Eric, I used godaddy for 3-4 years with Virtuemart/Joomla and the last 6 months with Cs-cart before making the switch to a better hosting company. I’d suggest taking a look at www.cyberlnc.com for ease of use and great customer service. Making the switch from Godaddy to Cyberlnc shared hosting was the best thing I’ve ever done to increase my website speed and reliability.
I’d suggest asking for a refund from godaddy and start on the right track with cyberlnc hosting.
Yeah, I agree with all of the above…!
I would never attempt to run a serious ecomm site on a Godaddy server.
I must admit, however, that I do use Godaddy for the registration of our domain names only because I enjoy seeing the Godaddy girls once a year when it is time for domain renewal! (And I also believe in rewarding them for their excellent Superbowl commercials)
First of all thanks to those that share their experiences. I would like to know why you feel godaddy’s hosting wouldn’t be suitable to run the CS Cart? What is it specifically that those other companies do for you to justify the higher price?
I can see that getting the site up and operating on godaddy can be more difficult, but after the initial installation what problems do you think one might have with a godaddy hosting set-up? Would there likely be problems with upgrading or something?

Hi Eric,
I’ve been part of the cs-cart forum for just under 3 years, over this period I’ve moved quite a lot of clients from GoDaddy. Most recently was kbmotorsportsonline.com
GoDaddy is “Mum & Pop” in terms of what it accomplishes, the control panel is severly lacking and quite simply it’s not designed for high-traffic, high-response and general usage by any eCommerce system.
Biggest selling points I’ve been told are the grid girls (most men succumb to it, so that explains the audience lol) and nascar affiliation.
Now I’m not going to tell you NOT to go to GoDaddy, but rather invest into a decent host that can provide you with better resource.
Investment is true when it comes to webhosting as everything else.
