Some of our items are one of kinds created by artists who sell through other channels. We have inventory and offer their work on our web site but would also like to put work we do not have in stock on our site. That way the artist can keep the piece in their possession and possibly sell it elsewhere while we have the opportunity to sell it as well. Since we won't physically have the item nor even know if it's still available, we are wondering what the best way to handle this would be. We would not want an “out of stock” message to appear, nor have the customer be able to purchase it until we verify availability but it would be good to get as much customer information as possible. Would like to use as much CS-Cart native functionality or existing modules as possible. Could we be considered an “affiliate” in this case?
Thanks for any insights.
As for the “Out of stock” message, you can select the “Do not track” option in the “Inventory” parameter for the specific products.
As for the ability to verify availability, I am afraid, additional custom development work is required to implement such a feature. Hire someone to implement it for you. We can offer you to hide online payment processors for the products with the “Do not track” option enabled.

Thanks for reply. I have been handling other things so have not been on the forum for some days. The artists I mentioned would not have inventory systems since they create small volumes of unique things. Possibly the functionality you mention would be useful in other cases. This would be something you could do?
Thanks for pointing out how to use the “do not track” option in this case. Simple is good.
hi,
we advise a small customization which hides “out of stock” / “in stock” label
possibly additional customization may help:
add a new field to product settings or in vendor settings to set local/global product creation time in days and display this info on product details page or (if necesary) other pages
our specialists will be glad to develop it for you so please don't hesitate to contact us.
best regards,
