Check the width of the grid where Main content block of the page is located on the Design > Layouts > [Layout page] page. For example, for the homepage open the Design > Layouts > Homepage. Change the width if necessary.
Also you can change your layout width. In order to do it, open the Design > Layouts page, hover the mouse cursor over your layout on the right, click the gear button and click the Properties link.
By default, Fluid width is used with specified dimensions. You can change them or you can change the width to Full width.

It looks like my version is too old to do this as I don't even have the Layout option when in Design.

I did go in through blocks and from there I can choose 16 or 12 (I already have the 16 selected) for the grid size.

Glad to hear you managed to resolve the issue.
