How do I create this promotion?

I would like to offer a cart promotion.

Total price of shopping cart = $500.00 or more, 10% discount. But, there are certain products I do not want to be discounted.

Here is a crude banner…

Thanks.

Go to Promotions,

General - name 10% Off over $500

Conditions - Add condition - Total products in cart greater that 0

Add condition - Order subtotal great than 500

Add condition - Products - not in - and choose the products you don't want to have discounted.

Bonuses - Order discount - by percentage of the original price 10

Save and close then test. Should work.

Should have said its a cart Promotion.
Thanks, but if I add a non-discountable item to my cart, I loose the discount for the other items.

If I remove that item from my cart, I get the discount back again.

The problem with store-wide promotions that include product exclusions is that the Bonus is not really an “order discount”, but a “product discount”, and you would have to include all the products that are available for the discount into the Bonus, and set the Conditions for just the subtotal. Even then, you get the potential problem of non-qualifying items added into the sub-total and triggering the Bonus on any of the items in the cart that are included (which should not be a deal breaker).

What I'm saying is that because there are some products not included, the bonus is inherently a Product Discount, not an Order Discount.

It's easier to include the excluded products in their own category and choose the Bonus of Discount on Products in Categories. Add all categories except the category with the excluded products. You don't have to MOVE the product to the category, but just add that category to each of the products (if necessary).
Thanks for that explanation, well put. That makes sense to me now. Thank you.
