Google Base data feed name problem?

“On January 23, 2010 3:03:24 AM PST you uploaded to Google Base via FTP a file named “cscart.csv”, but you don’t have a data feed registered with this name. Please verify that you provided the correct file name, including correct capitalization.”

Today I tried to export to Google base through the new merchant center and everything went quite well on the CS cart side and a file was created and sent.

But Google does not seem to know that the file name was setup.

I tried 3 times with the same result each time.

Has anyone had the same result?

There is a Google forum with lots of information almost too much I shall try there next.

Create data feed in

http://www.google.com/base/

named ex “products.txt”

When exporting to base name data feed also “products.txt”

CS-Cart Documentation — CS-Cart 4.15.x documentation

Thank you for the suggestion.

Google base seems to not exist anymore outside the “merchant center” so I will try with your file name right now - wish me luck!

It did not work.

I wonder if I am missing a step?

  1. I go to this page: http://www.google.com/merchants/bulkuploads

  2. Click new data feed and add the file name target country USA type Googlebase

    click save changes.

Is there another step before I export from CS cart? Note CS cart seems to be doing very well with no problems.
It did not work.

If you have a data feed in

    http://www.google.com/merchants/bulkuploads

named products.txt then everything should be set. I don’t think any steps are missing.

Thank you for your help I do have the data feed

“products.txt”

I copied and pasted so it would be correct.

Perhaps it is time to contact Google help.

Google base only accepts xml and txt

Do I need to do something special to set up my export file in one of those formats other than correctly naming the files?

Google Base export using the Tab-delimited format for export file,

please use names like ‘somefile.txt’ for Google Data Feeds and export files

When we export (and never have problems) we use file name eg products no txt or anything!

Never have an issue!

Thanks for everyones help.

I finally got it to work using “products.txt” as the file name

Interestingly I received good page one placement quickly but zero sales from Google base so far, and only a small number of clicks.

Hello, I’ve being trying and trying to submit my info to google base. I’ve tried using both text files, (CSV, and TXT). I’ve also checked my google base username/password and they are correct. However I continue to get an error message stating an “FTP Connection Error!”

Has anyone had this problem before???

Try posting on the Google merchant forum.

There are some very helpful people there who understand what you need.

Goodluck.

I had been trying for “months and months” to get my database feed to work, but I’ve received many “FTP” connection errors. Finally my trial period ended and I purchased the cart… no more connection errors.

My feed was properly sent to Google, but still disapproved. So I decided to close my Google Merchant Center account - removed my url and data feeds. Next I opened up a new Google Merchant Center account and resubmitted my data feeds… the result was 5019 of 5019 items inserted!!

This worked for me, and maybe it might work for you!!

Good to hear.

I have not received any Google orders so I may not bother submitting feeds in the future unless I can automate it?

Google Base is not specific to “Google orders”.

When I said Google orders I was thinking of orders resulting from uploading to the former Google base.

I do get some nice orders in fact my best all time customer was from a Google search.

I actually am not sure how Google uploading helps me other than shopping searches.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

A lot of people shop directly from Google shopping (Google base) and the results also show up in regular Google searches as well.

Have you ever looked at your logs to see where customers were coming from? Most of mine come from either the regular Google search or from the shopping area.

I do not look at my logs and actually have turned them off. But most as in 95%+ of our customers come from word of mouth or Google searches from articles we write or reviews on our products. We do not advertise.

We are in a custom made hand crafted business so this may explain part of our results.

Even without shopping uploads we are on the first page for our key phrases again because of our articles that we write related to our products.

Our experience has been that articles are a bit of work but in the end may be the simplest and best way to get good Google rankings.

I don’t know what you are selling but submitting your products to Google Base is only going to help.

If Google base helps with normal Google searches it may help so I will test further.

If I can automate the feed then all is well and I will keep doing it.

We sell a handcrafted luxury item that sells best by word of mouth or reviews or articles. It is a niche market.
