fight against the nulled scripts
Even if the site using the nulled script belong to countries that have no legislation rules against such, by approaching the hosting companies that host these sites (of course unless self hosted on own server), cscart legal team could ask the hosting companies to take down these sites/accounts from their servers.

I believe most legit hosting companies will comply.
i can’t speak for the other hosts out there but we do regularly scan for and suspend accounts caught with nulled applications. This policy is enforced not only for potential legal reasons with sofware authors but also for the concern and safety for our all other clients as nulled apps far too often have additional backdoor or malicious coding included.

Other than the site saying that is Nulled in the title how can you tell if a site is Nulled?
… probably chosen wrong forum

Agreed, good stuff CutRite!

I think the fight against Nulled versions of the script isn’t so much a community matter as it is CS-Cart’s legal departments’.

Realistically, everyone here on the forums should be too busy growing their own internet business(s) to be playing cops and robbers.

Probably not a popular opinion, but just my $.02.

If any of the moderators want to edit this, please feel free. The link I posted might not be the best for this argument, but I posted it just to prove a point. If you want to remove it I totally understand.

@pbradish

While I do agree that it is kind of a waste of time, I don’t agree with the reason why it is a waste of time.

Personally I think it a waste of time because it doesn’t stop anything. The movie companies, software companies, etc. have been dealing with this for ever now and they haven’t been able to stop it. Sure sites like Mininova have been basically shut down, but where one falls 5 more appear.

For CS-Cart just head over to warez-bb.org and you can download whatever nulled version you want. Not only CS-Cart, but Interspire, X-Cart and others.

Now as for your reasoning, it is actually in our best interest to want to keep the nulled versions to a mininum. CS-Cart will only stay in business as long as they are making money. If everyone went to the nulled versions than they wouldn’t make any income and would shut their doors and CS-Cart would be dead.

Anyways, just my thoughts,

Brandon

I know this will never be stopped as when I first started I had a nulled version that I was just using for testing as there was no demo. But after a month I purchased.

This is the old phrase if you like it buy it.

Don’t know if you can remember that old game DOOM. Well this became so popular as it was pirated like crazy. Which made the game a hit and made them money.

But there are people out there that are just never going to pay for software no matter what. And this battle will go on forever. It was just fun to PWNED that site.

You see now I feel bad so I am going to change his site back.

For all we know this guy could purchase the software.

I wonder how many people on this site actually have purchased all the software they have on their computer.? hmmmmm!

Bottom like if you like it and are going to use it then purchase it. This will keep the development of the software alive and let the developer know you support them.

True, but every time someone steals a copy and doesn’t pay for it, you will get stuck paying for it. in terms of higher support costs, increased yearly license fees and so forth.

Not just that. Nulled versions can contain embedded exploits that will “call home” but to hackers to alert that they can help themselves to your database and play with your server files.

About 2 years ago it was easy to download a game and play it. Nowadays 90% of “free” warez is loaded with trojans. Trading credit card numbers has a huge black market. Think about, a shopping cart can be a great source of credit card information that can be sold for real money at little or no risk. All it takes is a little creativity. You server can become a spam sending machine even if you have no valuable information the hackers will find a way to make money off your resources.

All nulled scripts have some “tags” in them by the groups who null. These tags persist and can be googled for a list of ALL sites that use nulled scripts by that group if you know the text string to google for. It does not even have to “call home.” A hacker can google your nulled script by a specific string that he left in one of the pages (and google later indexed). Then the hacker can just upload his script (bypassing all the defenses) that will list your server like an explorer in windows and he can start his own “shopping” for the information you have. Not just the cart but all the files and databases that are available from that account can be copied. You will never know that all the payment information people send through your site is duplicated automatically elsewhere.

Even if you found that you have been systematically hacked… what then? The damage is done and the perv is counting his money somewhere in Nigeria.

Also, note, I am not saying that groups that null add backdoors. Perhaps no, these are just passive-aggressive kids acting out. However, anybody can copy their “work,” add his own creativity and pass on as a regular nulled script. You would have no idea if that script has been doctored even more…

Something like a shopping cart that deals with financial information should not come from an “unknown” source. If you are that poor that you cannot afford a rather inexpensive license (comparing to other solutions) then you can always go for free carts like Open Cart (google it). It might not have all CS-Cart features but it beats having hackers enter through back doors of the nulled scripts.

That Open Cart can offer rather a serious on-line store solution. Once you will make some money you can always upgrade to CS-Cart (rather easily with export-import options) later on. Point is, don’t trust null scripts because you never know where they have been.

I am not sure the www.somedomain.ru/copyright.txt test works.

I for one, always remove all txt files from my root directory as it is easier for a hacker to attack a site if he knows which script it is using.
