I have changed as stated in this article but it is not working, the clearing cache is also giving me a 404 error. How else can I clear the cache, what happens if I delete inside the var/cache director?

check all spellings of renamed files that match config file
thank you johnbol1, double checking the spellings have did the trick 
I get a 404 error on my first pass at clearing the cache as well. Usually a second attempt will return to the admin page. I suspect it is just timing out or something, but it's annoying.
