Export data "Products" - does nothing

I have tried exporting product data to a csv file and a according to the exported file list a file is created but nothing exits on the link nor anywhere on the server, its just creating a dead link.

The lack of response from CS-Cart on the two issues I have discovered while evaluating the trial version is not encouraging.

Version 2.1 being trailed

To recap;

CS-Cart 2.1 has big download issues. Try 2.0.15. You can upgrade once a stable version of 2.1 is available. Just a thought.

Hi thanks again for your replies, I hope you are getting paid for your efforts here :slight_smile:

I am not sure what big download issues means?

Well if they are having issues with the current version (usually labelled as a Beta) then it would make sense to ensure that the most stable version is what is offered for the trial downloads and initial installations.

After inputting a considerable amount of data for evaluation purposes it seems that doing a roll back might be a lot of effort especially as I cannot export products!

I am VERY surprised that it seems that CS cart are not engaging with potential customers on their own forum. On the face of it it seems like a good product, but I do expect a reasonable effort to communicate from any company that i deal with.

And what better place than your own forum?

Hi

CS-Cart does seem to monitor the forums, but their main point of contact for user problems is their help desk. I have been on several cart forums recently and they several have disclaimers that said that developers do look at the form, if there is a problem that is not being addressed by the community, then to use the help desk. An example is Big Commerce which states in the forum: “BigCommerce monitors but is not active in this community.”

I also noticed that the cs-cart forum is very active and seem to have cart owners very willing to help people out with problems - if they can. I get many helpful suggestions here. However, when it comes to some critical problem that prevents the cart from working and solutions are needed quickly, the formal help desk should be used. I also notice that sometimes a person with a problem does not indicate which version (or trial) of cs-cart they are on, PHP versions what code changes they made and other detailed software and hardware information needed to solve a problem and then wonder how come there is no quick solution posted on the forum.

Bob

I think the cause with both of these problems you are experiencing can be determined by viewing your servers Apache error_log. If you don’t have access to this file then maybe your host would be willing to check this for you.

I can probably give you some ideas by looking at your phpinfo but seeing the actual errors would be much more helpful

Well I now know what gginorio meant by CS-Cart 2.1 has big download issues with a trial version installed and being tested only by me in a password protected directory (not open to the web) Dynamic PHP Script file is consuming around 200mb/day with just one person viewing and testing the cart with some modest use.

So I assume that this is a known issue so why make this version available to people in a trial?

If I move to 2.0.15 will that address all the problems including excessive bandwidth?

Can I change to 2.0.15 without losing the data that I have already configed (categories, products etc)?

Can I switch to 2.0.15 on a trial? if so where do I get it as there does not appear to be any version options on the trial download page?

How would I move from 2.2 to 2.0.15?

CS Cart 2.1 (Trial Version - with issues)

Apache version 1.3.41

PHP version 5.2.11

Looks like you were exporting products, depending on how many products and how fast (rather slow) your server is: More then likely it would have white-screened or else appear to have looped.

Two things that can cause this - that I have experienced:

PHP Memory Limits being exceeded,

Server / PHP|SQL timeouts being triggered.

If you have commented out the memory limit in CS-Cart (config.local.php) then it’s more than likely server based.

It’s more than likely that you’ll need to contact your webhost to fix it - This is something that CS-Cart charges support for.

My server works just fine for delivery of web based courses that can include streaming video, so no issue with server speed (rather fast).

As to the products being exported, well it did not work with 50 products (very modest list), it did not work with 10 products, it did not work with 1 product.

Not sure how either these could occur with 1 product being exported;

PHP Memory Limits being exceeded (on 1 product nah)

Server / PHP|SQL timeouts being triggered (on 1 product nah)

The streaming is entirely different to generating a CSV file, I can’t see how it would be CS-Cart itself as there are thousands of installations without this problem :slight_smile:

Either way we’ll need an error log posted to see what’s causing it in order to help, stabbing people in the dark otherwise.

Agreed but a csv file of a few measly kb is hardly likely to be a server issue.

And phpMyAdmin generates a csv just fine.

Well without any comment from CS Cart its difficult to say what the issue is, and it seems as if there are known high download issues?

Which may or may not account for this?

Handler_read_rnd_next 728 M

The number of requests to read the next row in the data file. This is high if you are doing a lot of table scans. Generally this suggests that your tables are not properly indexed or that your queries are not written to take advantage of the indexes you have.

I have looked through all (available) logs and cannot see anything that indicates the cause of problem.

I am not really looking for a cart that I would need to spend hours fault finding so if there is a more stable version then that might be a better option.

I also note that there is some unnecessary bandwidth use built into the product images, i.e. if two products are assigned the same image cs-cart creates a second image with a random string eg. black.jpg becomes black12833249634c7dfc238.jpg for the second product, meaning unnecessary bandwidth use. This seems quite pointless creating potentially multiple versions of the same image with different file names.

Even using clone to create the second product still ends up duplicating the product image all causing extra bandwidth use needlessly.

Looks like you are running 2.1.x - I don’t have any experience with that version as yet so your issues could be widespread. I believe they are releasing a new SP next week sometime.

It seems logical to me that the most stable version would be provided for a trial.

I am being told by sales that;

1 - They don’t offer support to trial until a license is paid for.

2 - Buy it and we offer 100 day money back guarantee.

Its a lot to ask that you will buy software with obvious problems on faith that once you pay for it the problems will be resolved. Makes more sense to show the customer the software is fully functional so that they can buy with confidence.

It may just be that I have been unlucky enough to grab the trial just as a new version is released before the bugs are ironed out.

At the present moment: 2.0.15 is the most stable.

They just released 2.1.1 this morning - might be the fix for all your troubles :slight_smile:
