Enabling SEO if hosting with Host Gator

Hi everyone. I’m using version 2.1.2 and my hosting provider is Host Gator.

I’ve been trying to enable the SEO addon. It won’t enable. I read through the CS-Cart Knowledge Base and subsequently checked the php information for the database in the Administration Tab. No where is there a mention of the mod_rewrite module added in that information page.

So, I called Host Gator to find out what can be done - but the customer service rep didn’t know how to help me other than sending me a link to an article on what mod_rewrite is. Because I simply don’t know much about it I didn’t know which questions to ask or what to press for.

Did I just get an uninformed customer service rep? Is there something I can do in the cpanel for Host Gator to fix things? Is the mod_rewrite module simply a matter of putting some lines of code in the htaccess file?

I could really use help here. Thanks.

You got a bad rep. Try the online chat with support on the home page. It’s normally good. They will create a support ticket and escalate it if needed. I haven’t used them for a while but I thought they supported mod_rewrite on shared accounts.

Thanks for the info.

One more question. Once I enable the SEO add on, will my previous URL’s with the previous format - ex:

www.mydomain.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30851

start 404’ing on me or will they still remain valid along with the new search engine friendly urls?

They will just redirect. You can use either to access the page.

Thanks.

Just to spread some good vibes, I’m really grateful to this community for the responses I’ve gotten to my questions whenever I’ve posted on these forums.

I too have a hostGator shared account. When I enabled SEO, many of the pages would default back to the homepage. It turned out that my old gulp Zen Cart data was in the .htaccess page and I needed to update that info with the data provided here in another thread. As soon as I did the update, everything worked perfect.

I use Hostgator and had no problems installing the SEO mod?

Are you using the latest version software?
