We don’t track inventory but disabling this option seems to completely ignore the stock levels and items that that have zero stock still have an add to cart button despite the individual product out of stock setting to ‘Allow people to sign up for notification’. I know that setting the price to zero would also mark an item out of stock but removing the price would not be an option for logistical reasons.
Due to the nature of our business we sometimes don’t mark stock as out of stock until orders of the stock have been placed but many customers ask to wait for new stock but then a month down the line if we are unable to get new stock we cancel orders and this leads to the zero stock items being put back in stock and subscriptions emails go out incorrectly.
Has anyone got any suggestions on a work around?
Cart version is 3.0.4
make sure you havent ticked the box to allow negative stock
and also make sure your products deatils page are ticked to track inventory or not.

We have the set [color=#5F5F5F][font=Tahoma, Arial, Verdana,]Out of stock actions ([/font][/color]?[color=#5F5F5F][font=Tahoma, Arial, Verdana,]): Sign up for notification[/font][/color]
If [color=#5F5F5F][font=Tahoma, Arial, Verdana,]Enable inventory tracking:[/font][/color] is not enabled then even items set to 0 stock can still be added to the cart and the Sign up for notification doesn't appear.
Either it just doesn't work as i'm expecting or there is something i'm missing!
ALL inventory options like “Notify when back in stock” & “Allow negative amounts” DEPEND upon Tracking Inventory to be turned on.
You would turn inventory tracking off if you offered downloads, which are never out of stock and have no inventory qty.
Inventory tracking is either on for all products or off for all products.
Also, if you Allow Negative amounts in inventory, then there is NO Notify when out of stock.
