eBay Acquires Magento

Well, I’m not for sure how good Magento is, but I know Ebay pretty much stinks and continues to run itself in the ground.

I can hear splashing sounds as people abandon that ship.

Cue Titanic Theme Song

I wouldn’t be surprised at all. eBay is the dot-com of 1990, not now at all.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn’t heard anything about it.

Who could to be interested to buy CS-Cart?

Hopefully no one, I don’t want it bought out and then ruined, like magento is going to become.

Hello Owenad,

The ruin of Magento is not written yet, wait and see.

I agree, Magento is a Rube Goldberg machine, however, its new operator can change its brain and its heart and transform it into a winner.

project.

I used Magento for quite a while. It’s got some good things, but being bought-out by eBay outweighs all of them. When I heard about the eBay/Magento deal, I jumped ship the very next day. I sell on eBay, but I hate the way things are becoming and being twisted away from protecting the sellers.

It’s just a short time before Magento gets messed up like eBay. As they say “there’s no time like the present”

I’ve been watch CS-Cart for a few years and I finally took the plunge. I’m glad I bought it.

Glad to hear it, I’m sure magento will go to crap, unforunate but true, ebay is generally very evil, specially that they own and run paypal now too.

This could be good or bad news. I use Magento as well as CS-Cart. While I like Magento’s way of making themes and layouts I really like CS-Cart because of the structure and ease or customization, not to mention it is fast as hell.

Which one is “fast as hell”? Magento or CS-Cart?

CS-Cart had massive speed improvements compared to Magento. You can optimize Magento to be very fast and I have but it requires a good server and system admin knowledge.

Just for giggles, is it me or is this like when Compaq & HP merged? Hopefully something good will come out of eBay for once. They’ve been absolutely…horrible. Haven’t used them in awhile. Go Amazon!!! :P

Take a look at the thread My Amazon Seller Central Rant.

Quote from comments to a letter in auctionbyte.com:

…“If you have a very successful sale through in products, you have to know that Amazon will look into it as a product to add to their own offerings and cut out the independent seller. This direct competition is one of the chief concerns that sellers have with Amazon.”

“Regarding Amazon’s “investigations” and requiring sellers to provide Amazon with details on their suppliers/sources – you have to be kidding me! You know what Amazon is actually investigating, and it’s not what they claim it to be…”
