I just recently jumped from 2.0.15 to 2.1.4 and was wondering what the reasoning is behind disallowing thumbnails in robots.txt in the newer versions?
Okay, apparently nobody has a clue.
I am not sure about Google base but Bing shopping will not show any of your products due to thumbnails being blocked by robots.txt.
I know this is kind of an older post, but I was wondering the same thing. I'm going to remove Disallow: /images/thumbnails/ from robots.txt because my image files are named with SEO in mind.
I've stumbled upon this as well since Google Base feeds require that their crawler access the product images. Is there a good reason to keep the disallow?
I see absolutely no good reason from an SEO perspective to block the thumbnails. Nothing, nada, zilch.
Perhaps CS-Cart could comment on this one.
3 years later, is there any reason to block thumbails? It makes all the "fetch as google" results as "Partial", not sure if it has any consequences
