Is it possible to disable the blocks from a particular product page or category of products but still have them appear everywhere else. I have some product where I want a real large image and the blocks get in the way.

The answer is yes. But you have to have the blocks defined by products (or categories). This means you can’t have any blocks that are defined on “All Pages” as these you can’t disable on a product by product (or category by category) basis. You would have to manage all of your blocks on a block category by block category basis (products, categories, pages,etc…)
