Hello,
I’m trying to get sub-category descriptions to show with the sub-category titles. I’m using the Smarty Debug Console and it doesn’t seem like the descriptions are available on the sub-category pages. Any ideas on how I could access the descriptions to print out on the page?
For reference, the page I am talking about is: http://www.petxtreme.com/store/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=2427
I appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks,
Lindsey
It would be nice to know where the owners of CS Cart are? I see all kinds of questions asked in this forum with hundreds of views and most threads don’t have a single response. The threads with responses are never solved which is no help to the community. I can get more help using open source software (FREE software) then using CS Cart, which is a paid product.
How about a little support for your product?
Don’t expect much support directly from CS-Cart here on the forum. Orangegirl is on here frequently, but that’s about it.
As for the rest of the help on the forum, for the most part it’s very helpful. Everyone who is contributing to this forum is volunteering their time and knowledge. None of us are required to help anyone.
You complain about threads that go unanswered. Sure there are some. Sometimes questions like your will go unanswered because the answer is unknown or tough to figure out.
I was just pm’d the exact same question Friday. I worked on it for about 1/2 hour or so and couldn’t come up with a solution. How much time should I volunteer for things that I’m not getting paid for?
Also, sometimes questions go unanswered because there is information missing or the question isn’t very clear. I’ve answered or partially answered many questions that no one ever responds back about. It’s pretty hard to come up with a good answer with only half of what is needed.
If you really want an answer, you can use the CS-Cart helpdesk. That is why you have support credits.
By the way though, I really like the look of your site, good job.
Brandon
It sound good what you are looking for. Customers will be better informed what the subcategory is about, reading just the title is not enough. In your case it could work really well.
Try to request a quote for a custom mod, not always you can rely on free help.
Thanks for the feedback. I understand that free help is hard to find, but this product was not free and that is why it is discouraging. It seems to me that CS Cart should take an active role in helping their customers in this forum, otherwise what are we paying for? I am a web developer and am very familiar with PHP/Smarty and can create my own mods. The problem is when a product is not documented well for developers it makes the questions I encounter a shot in the dark to solve.
Next time, I will encourage my clients to stick to widely supported products such as Drupal and Zen Cart.

Bruce, you are quite new to the forums thus would not notice this, however, the CS-Cart staff has been rapidly making improvements in this area & have been far more active recently. Certainly that doesn’t mean that every posted question will be guaranteed an answer.

I guess that would work for the most basic of needed business requirements!
Hello Bruce,
We explain only basic functionality in the forum, namely we explain how to configure something in CS-Cart or we provide solutions of bug fixes. If you want to get more careful assistance from our technical support team, please contact us via Customer Help Desk: http://helpdesk.cs-cart.com .
Thank you for understanding.

I also noticed this and I think it’s a very good thing. Potential buyers look at the forum all the time, and if they see CS-cart is helping (I’d just put one guy on it for 4 hours or so every day) this could certainly persuade them to buy.
Hello Flow,
Thank you very much for letting us know. We are always glad to learn how we can meet the needs of our customers better.
