the email field not showing up in the checkout registration form is bug that has been addressed and a fix has been provided ( informally ) check the bug tracker. It has to do with allowing unregistered check out being set. Check the bug tracker for the code

that bug was only for 1 page checkout?
I think I found it to be a bug in either one-page or standard when I reported it. You need to have both “Use email as login” and “Disable anonymous checkout” checked.

Weird, i use both “use e-mail as login” and a ssl cert and haven’t had any problems with both one page checkout and standard.
Maybe it could be something on your server’s side?
