The image sno posted is a better layout.
step 2 address shows up like this when you’re on step 3
Billing address: Tony Tester 1 test ave Titusville, Florida, United States 11122
That’s not an address format!
Tony Tester
1 Test Ave
Titusville, FL USA
11122
is correct.
Imac,
Has the Product Configurator been updated to work with products with options in this RC version?
Has the Buy Together Addon been modernized in this RC version?
I noticed both Addons are disabled in the Admin Panel and before I test them out I wanted to see if any work has been done under the hood.
Sno’s layout looks good ,cleaner and more effective . The address format needs to be in that order.
Thank you
Joe
When customers put in the payment info, there is nothing showing them the total until the next step. They aren’t shown any totals until the end. They should be able to see the cart the whole time. Checkout doesn’t show the cart on the side like it did. Was there something wrong with the cart on the right side during checkout? Was that discussed or something that was just removed?
Oh, and Sno’s address fields look much better, the way they are now with the label on the line above and the super wide boxes looks horrible.

Guys, where have you been when we discussed the checkout changes? Anyway, no changes will be in the current version. But we surely consider them for the next version (2.1.1).
Zeke
Keep developing 2.1 for another week or two and get the product released when ready. Listen to guys please. No rush. People will already have enough problems when upgrading from x.15 to 2.1 and then again to 2.1.1. No point.
That’s what my wife says.

One reason I will no longer be buying cs-cart, back to the drawing board for me now

After that someone will offer something more, and more and more. It can continue ever and ever. The consequent improvements from version to version is much better.

Sure, it was discussed

I gotta side with Zeke on this one. In this thread I think CSC did a good job asking for everyone’s input and coming to an agreement on the checkout changes. Removing the mini-cart during one-page checkout was one of them: “One-page checkout: the Cart items section on the left will be completely removed. Cart items and totals will be displayed on the fourth Summary step of checkout instead. And the payment options like Gift Certificate, Coupons and Point will be moved to the Payment method section of the third checkout step.”
You may not like it, but you had your chance to speak up and it not fair to now criticize the CSC team with comments that the layout “looks horrible” for a design that we agreed on. And it’s certainly within their right to not change the design and delay the release of 2.1.
I say suggest the changes and see if they will implement them in 2.1.1.
Draw the line and that’s it. Don’t listen to any new requests but…
…easy checkout makes the whole experience of buying a pleasure. The one we have now - no offence please - it’s a nightmare.
When adding stuff to my cart and clicking checkout, the very first thing I noticed was the lack of cart.
Since the ‘Checkout’ button by default goes to the checkout page, the customer never gets to see their total or what’s in their cart until after they have entered payment info. This is a HUGE problem. I usually walk away from a store if I can’t even see the shipping price before checkout. If it doesn’t even show the cart, I’m gone, no second thought to look for it, I went to checkout and it doesn’t show what I’ve got.
I don’t think it was explicitly stated in the discussion that they wouldn’t see any of their cart info until after payment info was collected.
Does anyone else see a problem with this, or is it just me?
Display issues are one thing, and they’ll keep coming I’m sure. I totally understand where you’re coming from. As a developer I’ve had sites where the client kept wanting one more thing again and again before launching. Same thing killed Duke Nukem Forever as well.
I think this is a significant issue though. If there were betas we might have said something before RC status.
As far as the address all one one line, that’s uncommon, ugly, and fixable simply with a couple
's.
The address forms, since fortunately there is very little markup, can be fixed with just a little css.
.step-body-active form label { display:inline-block; width:120px;}
.step-body-active form input { width:auto; }
Also, could you add a demo paypal checkout on the beta demo so we can try that out? Don’t have the time to install the beta on my dev site.
Personally, I’d rather wait an extra week than need to spend the time upgrading twice. Each upgrade requires me going through every modified file line by line looking at every change and how it affects our mods and searching svn notes for why changes were made.
EDIT:
Well, I guess I just didn’t notice the mentioning of removing the mini cart. That can be easily remedied with that new option to change all checkout buttons to go to the cart page anyway.
This is a RC for a reason. It skipped beta. But RC doesn’t mean a code freeze.
Another suggestion:
On guest checkout at least, perhaps the “My Order Details” button after purchase could be right under the “Your order has been received” section instead of bellow the create account section.
Also, what is that ‘Payment Instructions’ section, that’s kind of confusing, perhaps it’s optional.
I also saw some orders in the admin section that appeared to have credit cart info but were in an “Open” status. In what situations does that occur?
I totally agree with Phazei, when I am shopping and the a site’s cart doesn’t show me a total (including estimated shipping cost) before I enter my credit card information I LEAVE and do my shopping somewhere else. I would suspect many of my customers visiting my site would do the same.
Let’s get this fixed now. I week delay to get it done correctly is in everyone’s best interest. That is the whole purpose of a Release Candidate. People can feel it out. Reading how it will look and actually seeing it are two different things.
At a absolute minimum the customer needs to be able to see the estimated shipping cost before they enter payment information.
Once again, let’s get it corrected now.
P.S.

Zeke,
No offense to you or the CS-Cart Team but now that I have a chance to play with the product I see things differently than before the RC and we only giving you suggestions to make it better now before final release and I thought you wanted some feedback? I can understand your point of people wanting this and that and that can go on and on. Out of the 10 or so users who posted in this thread at least 4 users talked about the address format and that requires minimal change to make it look right. Its up to you to make the changes or not. But I would rather wait and have good functional product than keep upgrading every other week or so.
Thank you for listening and making this software better.
Joe
“…But I would rather wait and have good functional product than keep upgrading every other week or so.”…
Exactly.
Upgrading is a headache and very time consuming
Phazei,
You said
Since the ‘Checkout’ button by default goes to the checkout page
.
Luckily, there is a setting now in the admin to change this so that the customer goes to the cart first. This is the first setting I am going to change from the default setting.
Also, doesn’t a customer have to go to the cart page if Google Checkout and or PayPal Express are payment methods?
Bob
Zeke
It looks like not many people are happy to see 2.1 in its current stage. Please don’t make it “the most unwelcome release of CS”.
Thank you for listening.

Well, if you use paypal, it makes it less complicated if they go to the cart page. I’ve already modified our current cart buttons to take the customer to the cart page. They can still always skip the paypal button and click checkout on the cart page. Then they need to log into paypal and when they go back to the site, they are taken to the order confirmation page and charged. That will be an even bigger problem now. If they checkout and miss that paypal button, they will end up paying and will have never seen the cart at all. This is a huge loop hole of a problem with paypal. Who knows how that will work on this new version, but if they haven’t specifically done something to fix the issue, it could probably get someone sued or at least get incredibly irate customers that were charged without even showing them their cart at all.
I like the new landing page but the one page checkout still sucks as a concept. It’s general design is poor for customer ease of use and cart conversion. It’s as simple as that…Stuff disappears and new screens appear. For an average online user, I think it is very confusing and a lot of sales will be lost. Since I switched to the multi-page design I’ve had much better conversions. The CS team needs to go back to the drawing board on the one page checkout IMHO…
