Realtime credit card processing thru your CS-Cart will be your best situation as you can change settings so that card numbers are immediately purged when order is processed.

If you only plan to process a couple orders per day or week, then you could create a “Payment by Phone” payment method & have your customers give you card details this way. Or, you could request your customers Fax their card details to you. However, never ask or allow a customer to “email” credit card details to you as this is extremely high risk and will make you extremely liable when your customers details get stolen and fraudulent transactions take place!

I agree, never try to to email sensitive info like cc info.

Admittedly, we are still using 1.3.4, but we have our cards/processor setup as “Offline” in the payment methods section. We don’t like to charge in realtime/immediately as there are sometimes months between ordering and shipping (dealing with live plants) with lots of changes.

“Offline” will 1) store the number for our customers when they check out as usual, 2) we then take the info and process the card manually using our machines in our on-site store when we ship, and 3) then we purge the card info manually from completed orders in cs.

Has worked fine for us for 4 years, however, I cannot underestimate the importance of step 3 above.

You can set it up so that the card info is automatically deleted once you mark the order as “processed”. I also have mine set up to automatically delete the card info if the order is cancelled.

This has also worked fine for me for the 18 months or so I have been using CS-Cart.

Lyn - Not to get off track from leomis’ post, but yes, it can be done. We don’t do it that way as we use a “open” (we know you just ordered), then we change it to a “processed” (your estimated ship date and other info), then a “completed” (your order has been shipped and paid for).

I guess we could have it deleted automatically after “completed”… where is this setting again?

It’s under Orders - Order Statuses.

I do the same as you regarding having open, processed and completed orders but just have the cc info deleted automatically when I mark the order as completed. That way, I know I won’t forget to do it!

Lyn - I’m on 1.3.4 yet, and maybe I’m blind, but I do not see any settings in Order Status for this. For me, just a place to edit the email header and such. ? No big deal.

leomis - Again, sorry for taking over your thread, but it is sort of relevant.

I’m using 1.3.5 so it may be different. See the attached pic for what I have in my statuses. Is yours much different to this? Maybe there weren’t any of these options in 1.3.4. I only started from 1.3.5 so I’m not sure what happened before this version.

So it is possible you will have to keep doing it manually.

And my apologies also leomis but yes, it is relevant.

You do have the ability to automatically delete credit card information at any stage of the transaction in version 2 - just tick the box in the payment statuses - I suggest Processed (once you have processed the credit card) and Cancelled (in case the customer cancels the order).

Lyn - Yup, .4 doesn’t have that option. Thanks for clarifying. Best wishes.
