Configurator Improvements

While I don’t have the configurator set up right now, I plan to in the future. I actually had CS-Cart do some custom work for me on the configurator back in the 1.x series, but those changes weren’t passed onto the 2.x series.

The configurator works, but it isn’t very friendly to use. I’d prefer to have multiple pages or tabs or something.

I found an awesome configurator at:

I know it is a long shot to have this work for CS-Cart, but it would be totally cool. The Velatech shop is running Prestashop so maybe there is a way.

I decided to post this thread here instead of the other categories. This isn’t really so much of a wish list thing, but really a dreaming thing. I doubt we’ll see this in CS-Cart, but it would be cool.

It is cool for noob computer buyers, colors, huge pictures, and moving menus… However, when you sell to resellers and dealers, like us, all that flash **** makes it look unprofessional.

Plus, you would lose customers with bad flash installation.

I’d vote for configurator to be able to perform custom restrictions based on selected quantaties of a product.

For me I plan on using the configurator to allow people to build their own aquarium setups so I would be gearing for a different clientel.

As for the Flash problem, isn’t it something like 95-96% of people have flash installed? So wouldn’t this be kind of a minor problem?

Brandon

You would not loose but infact gain customers bu using interactive step by step graphical or flash type advance product configurator.

You could probably loose the sale if the flash was not interative and just an advertisement and slowing down the customer for selecting the right product.

Step by step interactive, probably cs-cart pages forms integrated, possibility of ajax and flash or optional nice graphics integration would be great! Current version is out dated and far from the simple basic functions and graphics. It is not user friendly. It has tabs but not interactive etc.

Although I do not mean the below samples meet these, I have found out some sites as some example towards the goal.

I use a flashblock addon for Firefox, it removes flash, makes the box transparent and adds a play button. Some people might think that it is one big ad logo and will never play it…

I personally do not have a use for the flash configurator linked. I can see how it would possibly be useful on sites like Brandon’s with his aquarium setup, but I feel it is more suited as a custom addon for the few rather than the many.

I also feel that adding this type of configurator to the cart would be a little over the head of the many out of the box cs cart store owners. Lets face it, having to customize the entire process with images for the flash and specific steps is a little more involved than most cs cart owners can handle. It seems like quite a few aren’t even capable of changing a few lines of css without hand-holding. This is not a bash, just an observation. Carts like this are on the most basic level designed for the unaware owner.

I also agree with TexasGuy, that functionality that relies solely on flash is not ideal.

Sure you might loose a percentage of people because of things like adblock, but people running adblock already loose a percentage of things.

For example, if you add a graphic banner using the blocks built into CS-Cart and then try and view your site while using adblock than you will not be able to see the banners.

Since adblock blocks even the simplest graphic banners, if they are not set up right, than people will miss out on them. So if you have a great deal set up as a graphic banner than you will loose a certain percentage of people because of this.

Now, for me, if I had things set up right, even the total newbie to aquariums would be able to build there aquarium step by step with detailed explanations why they need certain things along the way. Obviously if the system is set up to help out even the newest of people than that would definitely help out on sales as well as information to the customer.

Unfortunately the default product configurator isn’t very friendly to use and so would be tough to have do what I want it to do. One day I’ll have the extra cash laying around and will have this custom coded, but just not yet.

I agree, the configurator is one of the weakest features of cs-cart. It sounds good when you read about it, but in practice it does not deliver on many of its features. It has so much more potential. As written it is almost worthless. Most of my clients decided not to use it once they saw its weaknesses. For others, I have made some custom modifications to allow it to perform for their needs.

But please NO Flash.

You can vote to have the product configurator improved in the Ideas forum:

Please add any additional suggestions in this thread.

Bob

Can we get this fixed in version 3 please?

I do not want to turn this thread into a version 3 feature request area and I know you have the Ideas Section. But I wanted to highlight the most disappointing and weakest existing feature of cs-cart.

The Product Configurator

There have been countless posts in the forum asking for features that the Product Configurator should be able to do but doesn’t. In its current incarnation it is almost a worthless existing feature.

Can we please get a feature rich, functional Product Configurator in version 3. :)

I agree! Trying to come up with work-arounds is exhausting.

I also want to ask if this could be ok with version 3?Thanks,

cs-cart wont make such thing, maybe third party solutions
