Cart-Power Add-On: Sign-in and Registration via MAX

We have released an add-on that takes the registration form out of the customer’s way: sign-in and registration via the MAX messenger.

The customer presses “Sign in with MAX” in the stock sign-in form, confirms the sign-in in a chat with your store bot and comes back to the storefront already signed in. No password to invent, no e-mail to confirm, no SMS code to wait for.

What happens underneath. The messenger sends the store the customer’s phone number together with a signature the store checks with the bot key — somebody else’s number cannot be substituted without that key. The store then looks the customer up by that number in every spelling it produces itself (brackets, spaces and dashes make no difference) and either lets them into their existing account with the whole order history, or registers a new customer.

What is in the add-on:

  • a button in the stock sign-in form and in the sign-in pop-up — nothing to place by hand, no templates to edit;
  • a “Register customers the store does not know yet” setting, so MAX sign-in can be kept for registered customers only;
  • a sign-in attempt lifetime, with unfinished attempts clearing themselves up;
  • the customer profile shows whether they sign in through MAX and offers an unlink button, so “I cannot log in” takes a minute;
  • English and Russian for the interface and the bot messages, all of it editable in the store translations.

What the store needs: CS-Cart or Multi-Vendor 4.17.1 and above, a storefront on HTTPS, and your own bot in MAX. The bot is created for free in a few minutes through the service bot @MasterBot inside the MAX application; the manual walks through every step and every command.

What it does not do, so there are no surprises: it does not replace e-mail and password sign-in (the button stands next to it), it does not send letters or order notifications through the bot, and it does not open the admin panel — customers sign in through MAX, staff do not. The messenger does not pass an e-mail address on, so a new customer gets a placeholder address and can replace it in their account.

Update 1.1: the MAX bot speaks the language of the customer’s storefront

A fix for stores with more than one language.

The bot receives messenger updates in a separate request, where the store runs in its default language. As a result, a visitor of the English storefront got the bot’s questions and the sign-in confirmation in Russian.

What has changed

  • The bot answers in the language of the storefront where the customer started signing in: the request to share the phone number, the button that sends the contact, the sign-in confirmation and the error messages.
  • A customer the add-on registers on the first sign-in gets the language of that storefront, so the store’s emails reach them in it.

The sign-in form and the add-on settings have not changed. The update arrives through the CS-Cart Upgrade Center. The live demo with a real bot and the documentation are linked from the add-on page on the Marketplace:
