Best Practices for an Online Store

I would like some insight from the “seasoned” CS-Cart users on some best practices for building and maintaining a safe and secure online store.

What method do you use for backing up your website? How often?

Do you use the integrated backup/restore in the CS-Cart admin, or some other method?

I’ve run into a few instances now where I need to completely install a fresh copy of my website, only to find that the database restore does nothing.

Also, is there a difference between the www and public_html within the ftp? They appear to be identical, so is the www just taking up unnecessary space?

I would like to make a complete backup of everything on a daily basis in case I run into a future issue, but I’m just not sure which way to go about.

Just recently I had an issue where my install file got overwritten by some garbage from a 3rd party, and not one CS-Cart backup solved the issue. Thank god for some concerned users within this community I was able to get my store back up and running properly.

Thank you to anyone who chimes in.

I run a couple of websites, not CS-Cart.

They are all on Cpanel servers.

I use the cpanel backup to my pc. I do a home directory backup and also backup the database(s). Most sites I backup once a week, and I keep the three most recent backups. One site I backup every day, and I keep seven to ten most recent backups. I’ve had to restore a few times and the cpanel backup has always got me out of trouble, so far.

chef_joe,

Not sure if you had a look at some suggestion in a similar thread/questions I asked earlier…here it is:

phazei had some very good suggestion using the SVN method.

Hope that helps.

Doesn’t your host do daily backups?
