Best Image Sizes (Your Opinion)

I’m just getting ready to start taking photos and putting my store together. In your opinion, what is the best dimensions for the main image size and thumbnail size?

I believe it really depends upon just how much detail is needed to clearly display your own individual products.

My other answer would be: Just large enough to clearly display your product details and not a pixel larger for product page load speed!

Anyway the resolution should be 72 dpi for website images.

I used 120x120 dpi for thumbnail and 150x150 for main product image.

then, 500x500 for detail image.

Hi,

the size of an image (e.g. 120x120) is not the resolution. DPI is a measure of a number of pixels per inch used in a graphic or supported by a digital display device, used to specify type or image resolution.

Web monitors can currently show native pixel density of max. 144 dpi.

So, you suggest to prepare images to 144 instead of 72 for today’s montior?

I always use “save for web” options from photoshop. It prepares images to 72 by default. Thanks!

No, you have still to use your ‘save for web’ settings. 144dpi is what the monitor can reproduce, but recommnded resolution for web images should be 72dpi because of the file size.
