automatically generate product meta description

I would like to automatically generate product meta keyword and meta description when creating new or editing existing product. Could someone point me which file I need to modify?

Hi



meta description is made automaticly from your description already. If you have version 3 it is ok, but if you have verision 2 then you miss all the 1,2,3 letter words due to a bug. I have described that somewhere in here and the fix also.



For the meta keywords I dont find that you should do anything as they are depriciated.

Yes, I know meta description is made automatically, in English language its ok. But in our language alphabet we have some special letters like “Ä…”, “Å¡”. We have “a” and “s” also, and many people love to replace special letters with Latin (“s” instead of “Å¡”) when searching the web. So if I have word “Å¡aka” in product description, want to duplicate it but without special letters (“saka”).

I have made that for the greek language, if you provide me a list of the letters you want to use instead then I might fix something for you.

I am not new to php and smarty so I can write script by myself, but if you already have solution, its cool :)

I need to replace:

Ä… → a

č → c

Ä™ → e

Ä— → e

į → i

Å¡ → s

ų → u

Å« → u

ž → z



I am on v.3.0.2

Could you please expand on this? What is the character limit on the meta description? If my product description is 7000 characters, then will the meta also be 7000 characters?

I know nothing about character limit, but I think there is no limit and your meta description appears the same as product description.

BTW google shows 156 characters length max for meta description. Because of this I want o remove all special characters like ™, ® from meta description to save some space.

300 characters conflicts with Googles maximum.

Are words cut off or are partial words removed?



Google still seems to use keywords. I would like to automatically fill keywords with tags, brand, category and product name. Is anything available for this?

Google hasn't used meta keywords for ages.



If meta description looks good, google will use it (only to show in rankings). If it doesn't look good, it will make it's own. It looks like having short, nice meta description attracts more visitors.



I have an add-on that dynamically creates image alt and meta titles from a setting (i use manufacturer - product title, most of the time) - will update this for v3 soon
