Ok, so this sounded pretty simple to me. Adding the additional block in the product layout. Well thats exactly what I did: still nothing is being added to the live website.

It is default behaviour. Filters are available for the following dispatches only:
'categories.view',
'product_features.view',
'companies.products',
'products.search'
So you added the filter to the site via "Products/Filters"? Now I guess you need to add the relevant feature to the product via Editing product: click on "more" at the top right then "features" - check the relevant feature.
