2.1.1 checkout - did I miss something?

Just installed 2.1.1 to give myself an environment where I can test some of the addons I’ve developed in that release. In doing so, I noticed that the 1 page checkout no longer gives the customer the ability to alter their cart. I.e. the customer can’t adjust the quantity, options, gift cert, coupon code, etc. from the checkout page??? Instead the user has to go to the ‘cart’ to adjust the cart contents…

I must have missed something or there is a setting somewhere that I’ve missed because I thought the 2.1 checkout was supposed to be improved, not have features/functionality taken away.

This might make sense except the act of going to the cart causes the checkout page to loose all context of where it was at in the process.

For instance, if you’ve gotten to the “Summarize and Review” step and then go to the cart to adjust the quantity (or other attributes of the purchase), then, clicking the ‘checkout’ link requires the user to click Continue for each of the sections again that are already complete. .

Please tell me I missed something along the way…

Step4. Review and Place order.

If you click on the product(s) in the checkout it takes you to it and from there you can continue shopping and add products, when you select checkout you end up at step4 again. At least that’s what happens on mine!

Must have been that I had clicked Step 1 looking for the smaller cart box that gave me the opportunity to put coupons/gift_certs, select options, adjust quantity.

It should still be smart enough to know what data’s complete ans what isn’t and take you to the last incomplete step (or the summary if all prior steps are done).

But the main point is that it is now different and requires someone to leafve the checkout page to make changes. That is NEVER a good thing. Once they are on the checkout page you NEVER want to take them away until they are done.

AGREED a sale is a sale!

Just checking the new 2.1.1 checkout page and as you mentioned in step 4 you still could add more product to your cart, but what about the shipping cost? it gets also updated?. back in 2.0.14 It was a nice feature to have the cart content right at your side while doing the 4 step process, you could just add qty, delete products, etc.

Is any way to place a block with the cart as it was in 2.0.14?

Thanks in advance.

Of course it could be added… Someone has to do the work.

I don’t recall removing that functionality from the checkout page as part of any of the discussion about how to improve checkout. When helpdesk was asked, I got the benign response of “our architects were responding to customer requests”. But of course can find no mention of those requests in the public areas.

It is very POOR PRACTICE to have somone leave a checkout page once they are there to update products, add options, change quantities, etc. Just one more way to abandon a cart.
