Try It Early: Drag & Drop Product Images

Hello. We’d like to invite you to try the new way of managing product images on http://dev.demo.cs-cart.com and tell us what you think in this topic. We’re especially curious if the new way of managing images suits your needs, and what aspects of it you don’t like.

Currently we are planning to include this functionality in CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor 4.8.1, and now is the best time to suggest improvements. Details are available below.

The Current Behavior in Your Stores
As you know, each product in CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor can have a main image and a number of additional ones. We received complaints that managing those images in CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor wasn’t convenient:

  • Every image had to be loaded individually, by selecting a file from your machine, from the server, or by providing a link to the file.
  • The main image was located on a separate tab from the additional images.
  • Even the import of additional images for products required a separate CSV file.
What Has Been Done in 4.8.1
We tried to make working with product images faster and more intuitive. When you check out the admin panel of our development demo (http://dev.demo.cs-cart.com/admin.php) and try to edit a product, you’ll notice a few improvements.
  • Manage all images on one tab. The Images tab on the product editing page is gone. Additional images are now located on the General tab, together with the main image.
  • Select a bunch of images, drag them with your mouse, and drop them in the designated area on the product editing page. You’ll see the thumbnails of the images. Just save the product, and it’s done!
  • Change the image order and the main image by dragging them.
  • Hover over images with your mouse to see and change the alternative text. Use the icons to preview the full image or delete it. If you haven’t saved your changes yet, you can even restore the deleted images.
The Drawbacks, or What Hasn’t Been Done
We hope you’ll like the new functionality. However, there are some things you should know about:
  • There is no way to upload a custom thumbnail on the product editing page now; thumbnails will be generated automatically from the images that you drag and drop. We don’t take decisions to remove functionality lightly, but having custom thumbnails along with drag-and-drop of images would overcomplicate the interface. However, the ability to upload custom thumbnails via product import still remains.
  • So far, the drag and drop of images has only been implemented for the product editing page. The bulk product addition and editing remain the same as they were. This may or may not change, depending on your feedback. For the time being, if you’d like to drag and drop images when editing multiple products, we advise finding these products via search and editing them one by one. After you save a product, use the < or > buttons to switch to another product without having to return to the list.
We are looking forward to your feedback in this topic.

perfect image management! i love it .

what another new features

Regarding style, I like how alt text and remove button was visible without hover, I like styling how it was before. I would make hover only prieview button. Style needs some work.

When you hover the image - you see the remove button. You could not delete the image - no matter wether remove icon visible or not until you hover it. So with Remove icon - I can not understand your complain.

As for the alt text - there could be a lot of images - and alt text will generate extra noise. In UI terms alt text is sub element of the image - so it's not a good idea to always display it on the page among many other elements (product properties).

Well, I just expressed my thoughts. Current look just looks incomplete..

I am attaching screen shot of other soft I use, images tab, all clean and simple.

I really like this, Much better way of working. Especially when using multiple monitors.

I vote yes for this feature. It would be a big time saver.

This is a good feature, quick and easy to add images but would be great if you hover to a different thumbnail it should show allow you to zoom it.

What add-on- are you using Darius? I need this now please.

CS CART

- the drag and drop is definitely a step up.

- AT this point, the functionality should represent most e-com sites

Features

1. Drag and drop (check)

2. Show main image under which image is the main product image), so vendors know which will be the main image

3. Upload options , currently, upload from ULR or server, you need to have upload from local also, so I can navigate and upload files, and when I do so, I should be able to select multiple and click upload.

4. Editing. This is a must tool. Ability to resize an image, soon it in or out, crop and tilt are basic ones which should extremely helpful

Glad to see this, when would it be coming.. (might have to buy an add-on by then anyways)

When the new version will be released?

How is this coming along?

Hello,

this is not addon, its software not ralated to cs-cart from other developer. But managing images, galleries with it is easy and convenient
