Cs-Cart 4.6.1 Beta Is Now Available

Hello,

We’re glad to inform you that CS-Cart 4.6.1 Beta is now available. Those who belong to the Beta testers group can download it from the Beta testing folder in the File area of Help Desk and use it in the Trial mode. If you’d like to test the upcoming version, but aren’t a part of the Beta testers group, please let us know via Help Desk.

The beta version isn’t meant for live stores: you can’t upgrade to or from the beta. You just download it, install it, import your data, and see how the new functionality works. We’ll cover the most important additions below:

Product Variations [Beta]

CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor 4.6.1 will have a new add-on called Product Variations [Beta]. This add-on allows you to create variations (child products) based on a product’s options. Each variation has its own name, price, weight, quantity discounts, a set of images, etc.

Previously, options could only be grouped as option combinations. Each option combination could only have its own CODE (SKU), number in stock, and one primary image. The price and weight of a combination weren’t specified directly, but rather generated from the price and weight of the original product and from the modifiers added by options.

The documentation has a few articles about the new functionality:

The differences between option combinations and product variations

Multi-Vendor: Vendor’s Own Styles and Layouts

Previously vendors couldn’t use edit layouts and styles at all. Now store owners have the choice whether or not to allow vendors to edit styles and/or layouts. That ability is limited to the vendor’s own pages and products, but it still allows each vendor to stand out.

For more information, please check the article about allowing vendors to edit layouts and styles.

CS-Cart: Separate SMTP Settings and Robots.txt for Each Storefront

Previously, different storefronts in CS-Cart always used the same robots.txt file, even though they could appear as independent stores to your customers. The same applied to SMTP server settings. Starting with CS-Cart 4.6.1, you can specify SMTP server settings and robots.txt instructions separately for each storefront.

We hope that you like the new functionality of version 4.6.1. We’re looking forward to your feedback in this topic.

Hi;

I'll be interested int he Product Variations as it will be much better to have a separate SKU and product to link with Quickbooks. However in reading through the docs it seems that you can't add it to existing products? This seems like it will be almost useless to try to upgrade to, as our store as so many products.

Is the plan to allow store owners to upgrade existing products and options to the new product variations feature. In all the discussions over the last few months it was never mentioned that an upgrade path would not exist. Please clarify cs carts stance. A lot or us have been waiting a long time for this new functionality.

Hello,

There is a way to turn a simple product and its option combinations into a configurable product and its product variations. The docs were written at the same time when this functionality was developed, so it hasn't been included in the documentation yet.

Basically, when you open the editing page of a product, you can click the gear button and choose Convert to configurable product. Please note that you won't be able to undo this action, unless you restore a database from backup or delete the configurable product and import an older version of that product.

Is time to check it, thank you.

Can you please define a ‘simple product’. It seems this functionality is ment for complex products.

Simple and Configurable are just the terms that we use to refer to 2 distinct product types. When you use the Product Variations [Beta] add-on, you choose the type when you create a product.

Simple products are just normal CS-Cart products as you know them. The options of these products can be grouped as option combinations. So, all the products that exist in pre-4.6.1 stores are considered simple.

Configurable products are a new product type that will be introduced in version 4.6.1. These products won't have option combinations, but you'll be able to create product variations for them.

We have an article in the documentation that covers the difference between simple and configurable products, as well as between option combinations and product variations.

Thank you

Since the update we can't seem to manually create orders. When we click the Create button nothing happens.

At first please check server error logs

Will this be able to be done on mass, or via import bulk

In the current version you can only do it product by product. We may add this ability in future versions, but it depends on the demand for this feature, as well as on the feedback about the add-on in general. We'll also need to investigate the load that an operation like this will create on a server.

I tried to do the update in the update center and it acts like it installs it but nothing shows up, prompts me to install it again. I have no clue as to why it is doing this.

Anyone else have problems getting theme editor to load on this version Ive cleared cache and tried 2 browsers, still wont load

Try renaming the var/cache directory to clear the cache manually.

If this does not help, please contact us via Customer Help Desk and provide temporary access to your server by clicking on the Add record link on the Access information page of your Help Desk account so that we could examine the issue.

Hmm.. the update seemed to complete ok, but Im not seeing the Product Variations tab?

var/cache deleted and ownership/perms checked to be ok.

Product Variations addon isnt listed under listed under the Browse all available add-ons tab.

Update: I keep falling for this one.. Need to select "ALL STORES" , otherwise it wont show, maybe that should be step 1. of the instructions?
