Nofollow On Filters

Why is there a content="nofollow" on category filters? By current standards there should be a canonical tag pointing to the category, shouldnt it?

Any way of changing that to rel="canonical"?

CS-Cart 4.3.2

Actually nofollow or noindex is the best practice for products filter pages according to current standards.

I'm doing a site redesign from old cs-cart that has many filters indexed. Obviously most of them are useless, but some of them actually rank high in SERP. With noindex on them Im gonna drop for those phrases Im afraid :(

Is there a way then to selectively index some of the filters?

Also, according to sources like Moz and other SEO blogs it is best to put canonical tags in URL with filters parameters. Amazon has it and many other reputable online shops that I've checked

How can apply this? I mean to set noindex/nofollow at filters.

Thanks!
