So we are looking to use Mailchimp and use the Email marketing add-on instead of the Newsletters one. I was expecting all of the existing subscribers to be transferred across from one add-on to the other?

These add-ons use different tables to store subscribers. So you should transfer it manually using SQL query.
Can you let me know wether you use CS-Cart or Multivendor and how many storefronts do you have if it is CS-Cart.

2 storefronts on standard CS cart.

I tried exporting the csv a few months ago to mailchimp but customer names were not included?

I didn't take it any further as then, the email marketing add-on combined both storefronts anyhow.

Yes,

Newsletter does not store subscriber names.
