Can't Access Admin After New Install

Have 3.0.6 running on server.

Installed 4.1.3 in folder under public_html.

Installation went well.

Deleted install file ( no install folder found but maybe it now

gets wiped out as part of the installation process ).

Renamed admin.php

I have tried every which way to log in but keep getting

taken to a page not found.

The admin log in page comes up but I just keep ending up

at 404 page not found when I attempt to log in.

Also, it doesn’t seem to matter what email or password

I use as logins. No error message, just straight to the 404

I eventually thought to look around but only after

hours of googling and forum searching

Perhaps one of these support people can make a slight mention of the following

in their installation manuals.

After renaming admin.php

MAKE SURE YOU EDIT THE CONFIG.LOCAL.PHP

ACCORDINGLY.

CS-Cart really should consider writing manuals for

the common man.

Actually this is clearly mentioned in the KB article:

CS-Cart Documentation — CS-Cart 4.15.x documentation

Thanks.

This ( or at least a link ) would have been better placed as part of the installation manual.

People like me would simply follow the installation procedure, rename the admin.php file

and naturally think 'job done'.

Ecom…this stuff is your bread and butter. Most CS-Cart users are small business people

who need their hands held.

I wonder how many man hours support have spent on people like me who just gave up

and asked support 'why can't I log in to my admin'.

Thanks for the message. I understand your concern. But I have just checked the value of the “warning_insecure_admin_script” language variable which is displayed to the customers in the notification. Here is it:

It is strongly recommended that you rename the default admin.php script (check the Knowledge base) for security reasons.

As you can see, it contains the link to the article. I am not sure that language you use. Possibly the value of this language variable is dfferent for your language.

I am not sure at which stage of the process “warning_insecure_admin_script” is evoked

but it never came my way ( in English ). Maybe because I immediately renamed 'admin.php'

after installation.

Ultimately my opinion of the User Manuals is that they 'assume' too much pre-knowledge.

'Directions for getting to Paris'

  1. Have breakfast at home.
  2. Step off train in Paris.

Making assumptions about the intermediate steps is easy for anyone

who has made the journey before.

We have just noted that the link to KB is also displayed on the Settings Wizard. Check the image:

I must assume that the KB link takes you to an article that specifically

mentions renaming 'admin.php' in the config.local.php file.

No offense intended but I have invariably had to visit the forum after

hitting a dead end in the KB.

What is needed is for a non guru ( someone with no PHP knowledge )

to write articles for the KB while consulting a CS-Cart guru.
