Able to add an item to cart when inventory is at 0

I have an apparel website and would be tracking inventory also using global options to create a color/size combination and with just size options for all products. With that said after setting up a few items and set a few sizes at zero I am still able to add items with 0 QTY to the cart. I would expect this size to either grey out or at the least not allow me to add to cart. Keep in mind I just purchased this cart and I am still in the development stage, so I believe that takes out the equation of the increase decrease inventory on the order status section if that is a part of the problem.

Am I completely missing something or is this cart not well suited for apparel companies? Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. If I did not provide enough info about my issue please let me know.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello UC007!

You should create forbidden combinations. On the product editing page go to Options, add necessary options and click the Forbidden combinations link on the bottom of the page. Create the combinations that you don't have in Stock, they will not appear when a customer chooses options.

Thank You for your reply however I am still confused. Say I have 2 t-shirts in size small and both sold over the weekend, how would I prevent someone else from buying this item? It seems like when you use the forbidden option it is done after you run out of inventory and not before. I appreciate any clarity

Hello UC007!

When a product or options combination (T-shirt of Small size, white color) goes out of stock (available quantity is 0), the line out-of-stock should appear on a product details page and Add to cart button disappears.

Please make sure you do the following
[]on a product editing page in the Inventory field choose Track with options

[
]in the Zero price action choose “Do not allow customers to add the product to the cart”

[]go to the Options tab and add the necessary options

[
]create the forbidden combinations - combinations that are impossible to buy (you don't have such items in stock)

create option combinations - combinations available for purchase, specify the available quantity for each combination
As far as i understand, UC007 wants to say that if an option variant goes out of stock, this option variant shouldn't be available for choosing on the product page.

Say, I've got a T-Shirt of sizes L and XL. And L option variant goes out of stock (qty=0). Right on it shouldn't be shown as a variant for customers to choose.

For now (4.0.1 Ultimate) there's a pretty awkward solution: a customer can see and choose an option (with a warning “…option out of stock”), but can't add it to the Cart.

Why should I make customers click on out-of-stock variants just to see that their size is no available. That's a pretty irritating way and a question of usability.

The question is how to hide options variants that ran out of stock?

Samе question, anybody has an answer for that?

It should be either hidden or grayed out
