SiteGround - My Worst Experience. Do not use them!
Posted 02 June 2012 - 08:59 AM #1
Wrong!! Until you try to cancel it, they turn into money sucker monster!
First, when I sign up, I already pay upfront fee for the whole year (That's not normal, you should only pay as you go.), so you stuck with them even if you don't use it.
Second, a year later, I didn't want to renew it, and expect it to cancel when it expired. Yet, I received an email with auto renew invoice for another year. So I called, and tell them I didn't authorize to auto renew and charge on my card. They said, it's industry stander to auto renew and charge on your credit card.
Third, so I told them I didn't use this account anymore and I called at the same day you charge my card, I expect full-refund. They said, the $35 cancelation fee, and that's it's industry stander.
At this point, I'm so mad. I told them you have a very unhappy customer and she will never want to use your service again. Finally, they said, ok, but we'll reduce the cancellation fee to $14.90 which need to pay bank fee…..
Unbelievable, this company is a total scam, try to charge me left and right and told me it's not about money!! Yes, SiteGround is a money sucker monster, don't use them!!

As much as I understand your frustration, I really need to reply to your post publicly, because I feel it does not represent SiteGround company policies in a correct manner.
The first whole year of web hosting for CS Cart users is completely free of charge as part of a partnership between SiteGround and CS Cart. I believe that your account too has taken advantage of that promotional offer, so actually you have used our hosting service for 12 months completely free of charge.
It is true that we auto renew our hosting accounts. The reason behind this practice is that we want to prevent downtime due to forgotten renewal payments. However, before we do any charge for the next hosting period we sent at least 3 renewal reminder emails, where we inform the customers that the account will be auto-renewed and we explain how the account can be canceled before a renewal charge is made.

You're right, siteground sucks. I was using them about a year ago, and I had to leave them. Slow server, customer service sucks too.

I was able to cancel my shared hosting accounts without a problem, and like they said, they warned me a couple of times of these being prolonged.

I agree with flow I am hosting with siteground. I for one have nothing bad to say about them for now they have being pretty good with up time and support always responsive and quick. Now I don't know if that will change if I have a busy site with traffic because for now there has being minimal activity on my site. But they have sent me numerous email explaining what is happening to my account were it stand with enough advance time for me to avoid any service interruption to my account. One time I had over looked the time and my due date had passed I was shocked to see that it was still up, thanks to the auto-renew.

You can find some pretty bad stuff about other hosts too. I remember a story on this forum about one being offline / inaccessible for a week without informing their customers about anything, don't know which one that was anymore....
I'm sure people can google it though.

I also have never hosted with Martfox, but I have worked with sites on there too. I've never dealt directly with their customer service, so I can't say much there. The thing that bugs me with Martfox is the limits on storage and bandwidth. They seem really, really small to me.
Personally, I'd never host my sites with either host. There are just too many better hosts out ther to mess around with either company.
As for the Google thing, you are definitely the wrong person to bring up crap about another host, Indy. Obviously Martfox has had it's share of problems in the past that many of us that have been on here a while can remember. When it comes to these types of posts, you are a lot better off to just keep your nose out of other people's business or else you are just going to end up looking bad.
Thanks,
Brandon

Flow, ok?I just posted that, what I know and what is known at public web places - he lied that he meant a story of 1&1 instead of Martfox.com on this forum - that's all FLOW!!!

You are mentally deficient...
Calling someone a liar, despite being proven to have lied two posts up.
Time to start considering a new career since your public relations for martfox.com sucks so badly that I need Google to crawl the thread. Disappointing that you can't make a considerable attempt to help those in the forum and contribute resources instead of hovering over potential customers like a vulture.
Seriously.
