iPhone app for store owners
Posted 26 January 2011 - 01:28 PM #1
We’re currently working on a new tool for mobile devices to monitor an online store. The main purpose of the application is to allow store owners to view and correct critical data such as orders, products & customers using iPhone. Also I've attached a few images to give you an idea what the app looks like.
We’re in the process of establishing feature list and this is where we need you for brainstorming. Any ideas, feature requests and recommendations are welcome!
Particularly we’re interested in:
- What’s the most demanded data which you need to have at your fingertips all the time?
- What filters do you use for orders/customers/products most often? E.g. day/week/month for orders; in stock/out of stock for products etc.
- What extracts of information would it be nice to have on search results and “details” screens?
- What pieces of data would you like to edit and what is unlikely to be changed?
Or if you know a scenario of how to use a mobile application to manage your store, please tell us!

grayloon,
We're working on bringing store to mobile platforms, although we don't have a release date defined yet.
fcastrof,
We'd really appreciate it if you could explain a bit more detailed what "send shippments tracking codes" should look like and what usecase lays under it.

Android has ripped past iPhone, really quickly. Seems like a more relevant platform to develop for. Also as the source to the site is open, so should the store app.

2) Edit orders
3) Change pricing/activiation of products

No need to develop anything for a Droid. I can do just as much in admin and storefront on the Droid as I can on my PC.
Edit: I don't like to though. I don't see how anyone can mess around on the internet with something that small.?

1. Searching orders by order#, last name, first name & zipcode are the most important features when away from the office.
2. Clicking on email addresses will bring up the iphone email app.

I think these are great. Another great features would be the following.
1.) Add Product
2.) Add Product Image Taken with iPhone Camera
3.) Change Product Information (SKU, Pricing, Options, Features)
4.) Create Order - would be a great feature as well. Do it right once and everyone will love it. This can even used as a mobile register. Transacting through your cart gateway.
5.)Add customers and Change customer info
6.) Reporting

I think all of these take things too far. It's a frigging phone, not a remote desktop.

Using apple push notifications seems to be more appropriate. So it's a kind of a similar feature but in "mobile way"...
And you're absolutely right, we should find a good balance between the number of features and simplicity in order to make the app convenient. That's why your feedback is invaluable.

Yes, the "push" notification is a small red circle above the app that signifies that updates are available. This isn't much different from recieveing a "new email" notification and it's already part of the OS :)
