The only difference is the price, nothing less or more. If you buy from a reseller you save money and the reseller make a small profit. Your registration details will be send through API or direct to the SSL company and you will get an approver e-mail from him, not from reseller. When the approvement is done you will get your cert.

I agree with a few of the posters about this thread being really interesting.
I have two SSL certs for my sites. One is from Comodo for like, $80 per year and the other is from GoDaddy for like $30 per year.
Personally I see no difference in the certs. I do agree with Jesse about the EV cert and it having the Green Bar thing, but I think that is just marketing.
I kind of look at what my family and friends do and how they shop. None of them understand SSL or look for any kind of seal. They have no clue to what any of it means nor do they care.
My family and friends are about your average online shoppers. They know how to find what they want and are able to price compare. Once to a shop they like with the prices they are willing to pay, they are all capable of entering in their credit card numbers and completeing the sale.
The way I see it, my friends and family are they same type of people that would be shopping on my site. Because of this, I don't plan on upgrading to the EV cert or anything fancy anytime soon.
I could be wrong, I don't know. I do know that Jesse runs a succesful online business so it is kind of hard for me to dissagree with him, but at this point with my business, I think I am ok.

Brandon you have said it all very well - except your family is somewhat advanced in that they can price compare.
Also your $30 cert. Is quite expensive around double what you should be paying.

The Go Daddy one is actually a cert that covers 5 domains. I forget what it is called, but it works well.

In that case it sounds like a bargain as you would have to pay around $50 or so to get 5 single domain certs.

If something seems to good to be true it usually is.
I look for a single root SSL certificate such as RapidSSL. Although some say chained certs are better i do not know.
Currently a normal price is around US (not Euros) $13.95 or $10 per year when you buy 5 years.
I will not say where to shop for them as this is Indy's thread and hopefully she will soon have a good price for CS cart which I assume will be lower.

I have just asked DreamHost and they answered me that they uses a Comodo Certificate: "offer the InstantSSL certificate" (just the certificate, nothing else)

I don't know how the server treat it (maybe a configuration) but in my case, if I digit WWW. in my website page (address bar) it will remove "www." and it will be just https://DOMAIN...
Maybe this can change from each server.
