But in this case the skin was not downloaded from Templates World - it came with CS-Cart, which was purchased and paid for. There is nothing from CS-Cart that says the link to Template World has to stay intact.

In fact, on the CS-Cart information page on their site, it says "All the designs are included with the default distribution package free of charge". There is absolutely nothing anywhere that says some of the designs are provided by an outside source and their link must be left intact.

When you purchase CS-Cart, your contract is with them, not with any outside person or company who may have had some input into designing the cart.

So unless anyone can point to any disclaimer from CS-Cart, I would say go for it and remove it.

Since you're so confident, let me show you something called license. Just go to var\skins_repository\temper and you will see one. Read the license and you will understand your right.

Don't be naive to have so many "free" templates.

And the average person would think to look there?

However, on checking the CS-Cart Licence Agreement, it says:

"You may not remove or alter any trademark, logo, copyright or other proprietary notices, legends, symbols or labels in the Software"

So yes, Joe, you are correct in that you cannot remove OR ALTER the link, so you cannot change the colour so it doesn't appear and you have to leave it exactly as it is.

However, according to the Licence Agreement, which refers to any trademark, logo, copyright ..., I would also take this to mean you can't remove or alter any of the CS-Cart copyright links.

Am I naive to believe what I read on the CS-Cart? I don't think so.

So, Jint, I think you will have to leave it where it is.

And has everyone on the forum left the CS-Cart copyright notice at the bottom of their site, even though it specifically tells you how to remove it in the Knowledgebase and manual??!!

"the Software" means cs-cart the software itself, not the website. You can not say cs-cart is made by you while you can claim that your website is made by you. Hope this helps you understand the license.

Naive or not, I just don't want to confuse any people. Just trying to help, not to mislead.

One thing is clear: the skin selector should make any special license terms clear prior to installing the skin. Most people would not be digging through their skin directory looking for the license terms.

Interestingly, there is no license information in the Consultant skin about which he OP asked.

I think cs-cart should explicitly show the special license terms.

I agree as now I'm really confused. Did CS-Cart purchase this template from Template World? On their site it says:

Question: If I use your products do I have to link back or exchange links or give an acknowledgment to us?

Answer: NO. Once you purchase a product from us, you will be getting a license. This license does not require you to provide any credit back to TemplateWorld.com.

It is CS-Cart that is using the template from Template World to distribute with their software. Anyone who purchases CS-Cart enters into a contract with CS-Cart alone and not anyone else who has any input into their software. So if you are saying that the disclaimer in the CS-Cart licence agreement does not refer to the link at the bottom of the site, then without looking through all the folders, how is anyone to know that you are not meant to remove the link?

This is really confusing and I think it should be made clear from the outset if the link is not allowed to be removed. Unless anyone specifically clicks on the link to Template World, they would have no idea what is or isn't allowed.

Maybe someone from CS-Cart should clarify this, and also include any clarification in any future Licence Agreements.

The requirement is not clear. I now remember where I saw:
In addition, CS-Cart 2.0.7 comes with three new skins: “Redish”, “Fresh pick” and “Solitude”. Please note that since these skins are made by third-party designers, they require a backlink to an author’s website (please, refer to the licence.txt file in a corresponding skin folder for more details).
I first saw this in the August 2009 update blog:http://blog.cs-cart.com/2009/08/

There would be no breach of terms and conditions as the backlink would still be there, only the same color as the background.

Anyway we are not using that template now due to the "free adverting".

Thanks all for the input.

I had a footer in wordpress template that I wanted to hide. I couldn't just remove the code because it made it so that the template didn't work. Also the license, blah, blah, blah.

What I did was use this bit of css:

Code:
#footer p {
	position:absolute;
	left:-3000px;
	text-align:right;
	color:#186B83;
}
I haven't tried it myself because I only use the basic skin, but I bet this will work:

Code:
.bottom-copyright mini {
position:absolute;
	left:-3000px;
}
With this you aren't editing the text or anything and as far as I'm concerned you are still within the license.

Of course I'm not the license police so if your site gets shut down and you get arrested and locked away for life, than you didn't get this idea from me.

The Consultant skin has been developed by some third party (in this case by Template world). According to Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License it is necessary to leave a link to the developers when using this skin.

Default Removing template world reference

Does anyone know the best way to hide or remove the reference to template world on temper template? I see the posts here that it's not allowed but they are old posts. Just wondering if anyone has an update or the how to hide or remove?
